Dear Students,
Procedures regarding requests for excused absences from midterm exams are conducted in accordance with the provisions of Paragraph 1 of Article 6, titled “Just and Valid Reasons,” of the Gazi University Guidelines on Just and Valid Reasons.
Under this regulation, when evaluating excuses related to health conditions, the following circumstances are taken into account:
The student undergoing a medically urgent surgery, giving birth, being hospitalized for treatment and/or observation, or having a health issue requiring intervention in a hospital emergency room.
Medical reports that fall outside this scope will not be accepted as valid excuses for midterm exams. In this context, reports obtained from family health centers (health clinics), outpatient clinics, or other healthcare institutions that do not meet the conditions specified in Article 6, Paragraph 1 of the Guidelines will not be considered valid excuses.
Furthermore, it is strongly emphasized that a medical report obtained from a hospital’s emergency department alone does not constitute a valid excuse for missing a midterm exam. For a report from an emergency department to be considered a valid excuse, the student’s health issue must be of a nature that requires intervention in the emergency department.
Therefore, students planning to submit an excuse request based on a medical report in the event they are unable to take midterm exams are strongly advised to carefully review the conditions specified in Paragraph 1 of Article 6 of the Gazi University Guidelines on Just and Valid Reasons before obtaining a report.
It is strongly emphasized that all students must exercise the necessary diligence, as medical reports that do not meet the conditions specified in the guidelines will not be accepted as excuses for midterm exams.
